Records consist of annual reports, appointment books, budgetary files, case files, correspondence (alphabetical, chronological, general), and non-textual records. They represent the original, information copy, and personally annotated documents created and received during Starr's 11 year presidency (1983-1994). Topics covered include building projects, campus unrest, cultural diversity matters, financial planning and development, personnel issues, and Starr's promotion of college departments and programs. Starr's special initiatives and project files (American Soviet Youth Orchestra, Jazz Masterworks Editions) are particularily rich, as they cover his activities external to the College. Starr's speeches and writings cover topics such as architecture, higher education in the United States, jazz music, Soviet and Eastern European affairs, and the Three-year B.A. degree. Extant as well is a small amount of material from preceding presidential administrations.
